In Japan, at the end of each year, one Kanji character to represent the year is published at Kiyomizu-dera in Kyoto, which is one of the most famous world heritage temple. Unlike alphabet and Hiragana character, each Kanji has each meaning.
This year the Kanji for calamity, “Wazawai” was chosen for 2018 of Japan.
It’s a bit melancholy, but this year Japan experienced many serious disasters such as earthquakes, concentrated heavy rains, and typhoons. In addition to them, although this year extreme weather was seen across the world, summer heat this year was extraordinary in Japan and was called a kind of disaster.
Next year, many people believe to have a better year than we had this year.
